Beet Root Juice Promotes Apoptosis in Oncogenic MDA-MB-231 Cells While Protecting Cardiomyocytes Under Doxorubicin Treatment

title={Beet Root Juice Promotes Apoptosis in Oncogenic MDA-MB-231 Cells While Protecting Cardiomyocytes Under Doxorubicin Treatment},
author={Sayantanee Das and Denise S. Williams and Anindita Das and Rakesh C. Kukreja},
Doxorubicin (DOX) is a well-established chemotherapeutic drug widely used to treat a variety of cancers, though its clinical use is restricted by irreversible cardiotoxicity. Earlier studies show beetroot juice (BRJ) as a potent chemopreventive agent; however its cardioprotective function is yet to be established. The purpose of this experiment is to determine the protective effect of BRJ against DOX-induced cardiotoxicity. It was hypothesized that higher concentrations of BRJ, applied to…

Beetroot as a functional food with huge health benefits: Antioxidant, antitumor, physical function, and chronic metabolomics activity
The objective of this review is to provide sufficient evidence for the clarification of health benefits of beetroot, especially in the aspect of biooxidation, neoplastic diseases, some chronic diseases, and energy supplementation.
Al-ternative Medicine Phytochemicals in Cancer Management
This international evidence reviews highlights significant RCTs relating to cancer, their probable mechanisms of action and scope for future research.
Hepatoprotective effect of beetroot juice on liver injury in male Sprague–Dawley rats
Beetroot juice has potential hepatoprotective effects on the liver in a dose-dependent manner and Histopathologically, the animals treated with 500 mg/kg of extract showed a normal hepatocyte and mild portal congestion.
The Potential Benefits of Red Beetroot Supplementation in Health and Disease
Beetroot’s biological activity is discussed and evidence from studies that specifically investigated the effect of beetroot supplementation on inflammation, oxidative stress, cognition and endothelial function are evaluated.
Nutraceutical value of salad vegetables to combat COVID 19
The dietary management should be considered in terms of improving immunity. Vegetables are considered essential for well-balanced diets since they supply vitamins, minerals, dietary fiber, and
Organoleptic Evaluation of Product by Using Natural Color in Food Product (Cookies)
The present study is carries on “use of natural color in food product, cookies”. The use of natural color in food product in the place of synthetic color is a good option for the food industry. Color
The significance of saponins in shaping the quality of food products from red beet.
BACKGROUND Food products made from red beet have aroused growing interest among consumers owing to their health qualities. The quality of food products is determined to a large extent by the

Subcellular basis of vitamin C protection against doxorubicin-induced changes in rat cardiomyocytes
It is shown that Dox-induced cardiomyocyte death is mediated by a direct membrane effect as well as intracytoplasmic changes promoting theCardiomyocytes apoptosis, and a nutritional approach of using Vit C for preventing Dox -induced cardiotoxicity and better management of cancer patients are suggested.
Melatonin as an effective protector against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity.
Melatonin protect against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity without interfering with its antitumor effect, according to the results of the present study.
Influence of the phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor, sildenafil, on sensitivity to chemotherapy in breast tumor cells
The inclusion of sildenafil with conventional chemotherapeutic protocols involving Adriamycin (and possibly cisplatin, camptothecin and/or paclitaxel) should not compromise the antitumor effectiveness of these drugs nor enhance their toxicity to the patient.
Probucol protects against adriamycin cardiomyopathy without interfering with its antitumor effect.
These data show for the first time that PROB can provide complete protection against ADR cardiomyopathy without interfering with antitumor properties of the drug.
Anthracyclines: Molecular Advances and Pharmacologic Developments in Antitumor Activity and Cardiotoxicity
An overview of issues confirms that anthracyclines remain “evergreen” drugs with broad clinical indications but have still an improvable therapeutic index.
Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitor Sildenafil Preconditions Adult Cardiac Myocytes against Necrosis and Apoptosis
The data provide strong evidence for a direct protective effect of sildenafil against necrosis and apoptosis through NO signaling pathway and may have possible therapeutic potential in preventing myocyte cell death following ischemia/reperfusion.
Cyclic GMP-dependent Protein Kinase Iα Attenuates Necrosis and Apoptosis Following Ischemia/Reoxygenation in Adult Cardiomyocyte*
Results show that opening of mitochondrial KATP channels and generation of reactive oxygen species, in association with phosphorylation of Akt, ERK, and JNK, and increased expression of NOS and Bcl-2, play an essential role in the protective effect of PKGIα.
