Ever since the first human infection with H7N9 avian influenza virus (AIV) was reported in China in March 2013, there have been five H7N9 AIV pandemics in humans. Wave 5 began earlier than the previous four waves, spread to more districts and counties in affected provinces, and had more confirmed cases (Wang et al., 2017).
