SUMMARY Dogs can be infected by a wide range of Bartonella spp., but limited studies have been conducted in tropical urban and rural dog populations. We aimed to determine Bartonella antibody prevalence in 455 domestic dogs from four tropical countries and detect Bartonella DNA in a subset of these dogs. Bartonella antibodies were detected in 38 (8·3%) dogs, including 26 (10·1%) from Colombia, nine (7·6%) from Brazil, three (5·1%) from Sri Lanka and none from Vietnam. DNA extraction was…
Bartonella in dogs and fleas from Tulancingo, Hidalgo, Mexico
TLDR
Prevalence of Bartonella exposure and/or infection in dogs and their fleas in Central Mexico and partial sequencing of that gene revealed that three dogs were infected with B. henselae.
Infection of Domestic Dogs in Peru by Zoonotic Bartonella Species: A Cross-Sectional Prevalence Study of 219 Asymptomatic Dogs
TLDR
This study identifies for the first time a population of dogs exposed to or infected with zoonotic Bartonella species, suggesting that domestic dogs may be the natural reservoir of theseZoonotic organisms.
Pathogens in fleas collected from cats and dogs: distribution and prevalence in the UK
TLDR
A large-scale survey of pathogens in fleas collected from client-owned cats and dogs in the UK highlights the need for ongoing flea control, particularly given the relatively high prevalence of Bartonella spp.
Bartonella infections in cats and dogs including zoonotic aspects
TLDR
An update and European perspective on Bartonella infections in cats and dogs, including clinical, diagnostic, epidemiological, pathological, treatment and zoonotic aspects is provided.
Bartonella Seroepidemiology in Dogs from North America, 2008–2014
TLDR
Male intact dogs, mixed breed dogs, and dogs exposed to other CVBD have higher seroreactivity to multiple Bartonella species, and geographic patterns supported broad distribution of exposure, and co‐exposure with otherCVBD was common.
Prevalence and Potential Risk Factors for Bartonella Infection in Tunisian Stray Dogs.
Bartonellae are blood-borne and vector-transmitted pathogens, some are zoonotic, which have been reported in several Mediterranean countries. Transmission from dogs to humans is suspected, but has
Candidatus Bartonella merieuxii, a Potential New Zoonotic Bartonella Species in Canids from Iraq
TLDR
Seroprevalence in Iraqi dog owners and bacteremia in Iraqi people with unexplained fever or culture negative endocarditis requires further investigation as well as in United States military personnel who were stationed in Iraq.

Serological and molecular detection of Bartonella spp. in humans, cats and dogs from northern Sardinia, Italy.
TLDR
Most human cases of infection with Bartonella henselae, named cat scratch disease (CSD), present as an acute febrile lymphadenopathy, and dogs are excellent sentinels for human infections, because a similar disease spectrum develops in dogs.
Emerging Bartonella in humans and animals in Asia and Australia.
TLDR
The rate of Bartonella infection was found to be high in arthropod ectoparasitic vectors, mammals, and febrile patients in these tropical zones.
Bartonella rochalimae and Other Bartonella spp. in Fleas, Chile
TLDR
The role of henselae from fleas (Pulex irritans and Ctenocephalides felis) collected in Chile are discussed and the role of these fleas as possible vectors of infection is discussed.
DIVERSE AND ATYPICAL GENOTYPES IDENTIFIED IN TOXOPLASMA GONDII FROM DOGS IN SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL
TLDR
The prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in 118 unwanted dogs from São Paulo City, S Paulo State, Brazil, was determined and the absence of Type II in Brazil was confirmed, supporting previous findings that T. gondII population genetics is highly diverse in Brazil.
Bartonella henselae and Bartonella clarridgeiae infection in domestic cats from The Philippines.
TLDR
The presence of antibodies to Bartonella was strongly associated with flea infestation, and domestic cats represent a large reservoir of Bartonesella infection in the Philippines.
Prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in dogs from Sri Lanka and genetic characterization of the parasite isolates.
Canine bartonellosis: serological and molecular prevalence in Brazil and evidence of co-infection with Bartonella henselae and Bartonella vinsonii subsp. berkhoffii.
TLDR
It is concluded that dogs in this study population were infrequently exposed to or infected with a Bartonella species, genetically similar to strains isolated from septicemic cats, dogs, coyotes and human beings from other parts of the world.
Prevalence of Bartonella henselae antibodies in pet cats throughout regions of North America.
TLDR
The prevalence of serum antibody titers to B. henselae was determined for selected pet cats from 33 geographic locations throughout the United States and several areas in western Canada and appears to be influenced by climate.
