I review here some recent work carried out (1) to characterize differences in habitat selection by the larvae of the barnacle, Semibalanus balanoides , in two regions, the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Bay of Passamaqquoddy on the Atlantic coast of Canada, and (2) to examine the mechanism used by the larvae to select a microhabitat to settle.
