The annelid genus Heterochaeta , with the single species H. costata , was first described from the marine littoral near Cherbourg, Normandy in France, by Claparede (1863). Although sexually immature, the worms can obviously be distinguished from all other marine tubificids by the peculiar palmate shape of the dorsal chaetae (erroneously interpreted as bowl-like by Claparede) in segments V–XIII while all other chaetae are bifid. The presence of two widely divergent kinds of short chaetae (long…

Archaeoryctes Zheng, 1979 (Mammalia), nomen protectum, and Archaeoryctes Czerniavsky, 1881 (Annelida), nomen oblitum

It is noteworthy that the long-used generic or subgeneric name Psammoryctes Vejdovský, 1876, because of homonymy with Psammaryctes Poeppig, 1835, should be retained as nomen protectum, and the name Archaeorycte Czerniavsky, 1881 should be designated as noma oblitum.

Involvement of sphaeractinomyxon in the life cycle of mugiliform-infecting Myxobolus (Cnidaria, Myxosporea) reveals high functionality of actinospore morphotype in promoting transmission

Four new actinospore types belonging to the sphaeractinomyxon collective group are described from the coelomic cavity of a marine Baltidrilus sp.

The species described by René-édouard Claparède. Part 1: Animalia

Abstract: René-Edouard Claparède, an often overlooked Genevan zoologist, described nearly 200 species of animal in his short career. These are listed with the currently valid combinations.
