BACKGROUND Peginterferon-alpha-based therapy frequently leads to neutropenia. It remains unclear whether neutropenia is associated with bacterial infection in chronic hepatitis C (CHC). AIM To evaluate the risk of bacterial infection and neutropenia in patients with CHC treated with peginterferon-alpha/ribavirin.
