Sorting and quantification of deactivated bacteria is an important way of quality control for whole-cell bacterial vaccines. In general, surface features of deactivated bacteria used for whole-cell bacterial vaccines affect the immunoresponse to bacteria-associated antigens. Enumeration of bacteria is also an important process development parameter for these vaccines. Field-flow fractionation (FFF) was previously applied to the separation of bacteria. For the first time, FFF is used for sorting…

Field-flow fractionation and biotechnology.
Human lymphocyte sorting by gravitational field-flow fractionation
TLDR
In this work, gravitational field-flow fractionation (GrFFF) is shown to be effective for sorting a heterogeneous mixture of human, living lymphocytes constituted of neoplastic B cells from a Burkitt lymphoma cell line and healthy T and B lymphocytes from blood samples.
Hybrid gravitational field-flow fractionation using immunofunctionalized walls for integrated bioanalytical devices
In this work, the biospecific recognition antigen–antibody reaction was implemented in gravitational field-flow fractionation (GrFFF), a flow-assisted separation technique for micron-sized particles,
Hyperlayer hollow-fiber flow field-flow fractionation of cells.
Micro-thermal field-flow fractionation of bacteria.
Coupling gravitational and flow field-flow fractionation, and size-distribution analysis of whole yeast cells
TLDR
The observed agreement between the particle size distribution analysis obtained by means of the Coulter counter and by flow field-flow fractionation indicates that yeast cell density can play a major role in the gravitational field- flow fractionation retention mechanism of yeast cells.
Biocompatible channels for field-flow fractionation of biological samples: correlation between surface composition and operating performance
TLDR
A more general approach to field-flow fractionation for bio-samples is started by investigation of the correlation between channel surface composition and biosample adhesion by using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy to study the surface properties of channels of known performance.
High Speed Size Sorting of Subcellular Organelles by Flow Field-Flow Fractionation.
TLDR
This study introduces a high speed, semipreparative scale, biocompatible size sorting method for the isolation of subcellular organelle species from homogenate mixtures of HEK 293T cells using flow field-flow fractionation (FlFFF).
