The goal of this review is to present an introduction to loop quantum gravity—a background-independent, non-perturbative approach to the problem of unification of general relativity and quantum physics, based on a quantum theory of geometry. Our presentation is pedagogical. Thus, in addition to providing a bird's eye view of the present status of the subject, the review should also serve as a vehicle to enter the field and explore it in detail. To aid non-experts, very little is assumed beyond…

An invitation to loop quantum gravity

We describe the basic assumptions and key results of loop quantum gravity, which is a background independent approach to quantum gravity. The emphasis is on the basic physical principles and how one

Aspects of quantum gravity

For more than 80 years theoretical physicists have been trying to develop a theory of quantum gravity which would successfully combine the tenets of Einstein's theory of general relativity (GR)

An Introduction to Loop Quantum Gravity with Application to Cosmology

The development of a quantum theory of gravity has been ongoing in the theoretical physics community for about 80 years, yet it remains unsolved. In this dissertation, we review the loop quantum

Introduction to loop quantum gravity and spin foams

These notes are a didactic overview of the non perturbative and background independent approach to a quantum theory of gravity known as loop quantum gravity. The definition of real connection

Quantum dyanmics of loop quantum gravity

In the last 20 years, loop quantum gravity, a background independent approach to unify general relativity and quantum mechanics, has been widely investigated. The aim of loop quantum gravity is to

FUNDAMENTAL STRUCTURE OF LOOP QUANTUM GRAVITY

In the recent twenty years, loop quantum gravity, a background independent approach to unify general relativity and quantum mechanics, has been widely investigated. The aim of loop quantum gravity is

Loop Quantum Gravity and planck Scale Phenomenology

Of the different approaches to quantum gravity, the best developed, from the point of view of addressing the key theoretical questions a quantum theory of gravity must answer, is loop quantum

Quantum cosmology: a review

This review presents quantum cosmology in a new picture that tries to incorporate the importance of inhomogeneity in a close relationship with more-established systems in condensed-matter and particle physics even while the large set of space-time symmetries requires some adaptations and new developments.

The case for background independence

The aim of this paper is to explain carefully the arguments behind the assertion that the correct quantum theory of gravity must be background independent. We begin by recounting how the debate

Black holes in loop quantum gravity

This is a review of results on black hole physics in the context of loop quantum gravity, finding the discreteness of geometric quantities at the Planck scale predicted by this approach to quantum gravity to be key.
