BMY-28190, an antibiotic complex active against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) was produced by the cultured broth of Streptoalloteichus hindustanus sp. nov., a producing strain of tallysomycins A and B. The antibiotic complex was recovered from the broth with Amberlite IRC-50 resin and separated from the coproduced tallysomycins and nebramycins by a series of chromatographies. BMY-28190 exhibited weak inhibitory activity toward Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and strong inhibitory… Expand
Distribution of ε-Poly-l-Lysine Synthetases in Coryneform Bacteria Isolated from Cheese and Human Skin
TLDR
The frequent finding of pls in cheese and skin bacteria suggests that ε-poly-l-lysine may naturally exist in Cheese and on the authors' skin, andε-Poly-l -lysine producers are not limited to filamentous actinobacteria. Expand
Distribution of Epsilon-Polylysine Synthetases in Coryneform Bacteria Isolated from Cheese and Human Skin
TLDR
The unexpected finding of ε-PL synthetases in cheese and skin bacteria suggests that ε, which is an excellent food preservative, may naturally exist in Cheese and on the authors' skin. Expand
Complete genome sequence of the actinomycete Actinoalloteichus hymeniacidonis type strain HPA 177T isolated from a marine sponge
TLDR
This project, describing the 6.31 Mbp long chromosome, with its 5346 protein-coding and 73 RNA genes, will aid the Genomic Encyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea project. Expand
Occurrence and Production of Poly-Epsilon-l-Lysine in Microorganisms
This chapter addresses the occurrence and production of poly-e-L-lysine (e-PL) in filamentous bacteria from the family Streptomycetaceae and ergot fungi, especially in the genus Streptomyces. TheExpand
Characterization of an L-α,β-diaminopropionic acid polymer with comb-like structure isolated from a poly(ε-L-lysine)-producing Streptomyces sp.
TLDR
Novel cationic poly(amino acid) was found in an ε-PL-producing Streptomyces species and exhibited antibacterial and antifungal activities, which has potential as a specific and advanced material for technical applications in various fields. Expand
Poly(gamma-L-diaminobutanoic acid), a novel poly(amino acid), coproduced with poly(epsilon-L-lysine) by two strains of Streptomyces celluloflavus.
TLDR
Gamma-PAB exhibited strong inhibitory activities against various yeasts and weaker actions against bacteria than epsilon-PL, and the use of gamma-PABs along with epsilus-PL would be advantageous for technical applications in various fields. Expand

Tallysomycin, a new antitumor antibiotic complex related to bleomycin. I. Production, isolation and properties.
TLDR
Tallysomycin exhibited broad antibacterial and antifungal activity, and was highly active in vivo against bacterial infections in mice, and demonstrated potent activity in the prophage induction of lysogenic bacteria. Expand
Inactivation of Bacteriophages by ε-Poly-l-lysine Produced by Streptomyces

Antimicrobial action of epsilon-poly-L-lysine.
TLDR
Investigation of the antimicrobial spectrum of epsilon-poly-L-lysine found it to be optimum for antimicrobial activity, and studies on the mode of action suggest that absorption of ePSilon-PL to the bacterial cell surface plays an important role in its antibacterial activity. Expand
Polylysine Produced by Streptomyces
In the course of our screening for Dragendorff positive substance from microbial origin, we have found out polylysine (lysinepolymer) from culture filtrate of a streptomycete. Although some newExpand
A colorimetric assay for the measurement of the sensitivity of herpes simplex viruses to antiviral agents.
TLDR
A quantitative colorimetric method for measuring the inhibition of viral cytopathic effects has been adapted to the assay of antiviral compounds, and median inhibitory concentrations for a number of compounds were approximately tenfold higher in the dye-uptake assay compared with the plaque reduction assay.
