Four female D. bigbendensisgave birth in the laboratory . One parturition was normal and some o f the young were reared to maturity, whereas the other three parturitions were abnormal and resulted i n significant cannibalism of the newborn by their mothers . In the normal parturition 37 young wer e born during about 30 hours . The young emerged tail-first and upside-down, and were free of an y "birth membranes ."
