The isolation from pigeon liver of an enzyme which catalyzes the reversible oxidative decarboxylation of I-malic acid to pyruvic acid and COZ has been previously reported (1). Work leading to the discovery of this enzyme has been discussed in the preceding paper (2). The present paper deals with the purification of the pigeon liver enzyme and with a more detailed study of its properties. In the presence of manganous ions the new enzyme catalyzes Reaction 1.
