The abundance of beryllium in the oldest, most metal-poor stars acts as a probe of early star formation and Galactic chemical evolution. We have analyzed high-resolution, high signal-to-noise ratio Keck/HIRES spectra of 24 stars with [Fe/H] from −2.3 to −3.5 in order to determine the history of Be abundance and explore the possibility of a Be plateau. We have determined stellar parameters of our sample spectroscopically, using equivalent widths of Fe i, Ti i, and Ti ii lines. We have determined…

BERYLLIUM AND ALPHA-ELEMENT ABUNDANCES IN A LARGE SAMPLE OF METAL-POOR STARS

The light elements, Li, Be, and B, provide tracers for many aspects of astronomy including stellar structure, Galactic evolution, and cosmology. We have made observations of Be in 117 metal-poor

Inhomogeneity in the early Galactic chemical enrichment exposed by beryllium abundances in extremely metal-poor stars

Abundances of beryllium in metal-poor stars scale linearly with metallicity down to [Fe/H] ~ -3.0. In the stars where Be has been detected at this extremely metal-poor regime, an increased abundance

New Beryllium results in halo stars from Keck/HIRES spectra

Abstract We have obtained high-resolution, high signal-to-noise Keck spectra to determine Be abundances in over 100 stars in the Galactic halo. The stellar metallicities range from [Fe/H] = −0.50 to

Abstract Knowledge of lithium, beryllium, and boron abundances in stars of the Galactic halo and disk plays a major role in our understanding of Big Bang nucleosynthesis, cosmic-ray physics, and

Consistent Iron Abundances Derived from Neutral and Singly Ionized Iron Lines in Ultraviolet and Optical Spectra of Six Warm Metal-poor Stars

Neutral Fe lines in metal-poor stars yield conflicting abundances depending on whether and how deviations from local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) are considered. We have collected new

ABUNDANCES OF STARS WITH PLANETS: TRENDS WITH CONDENSATION TEMPERATURE,

Precise abundances of 18 elements have been derived for 10 stars known to host giant planets from high signal-to-noise ratio, high-resolution echelle spectroscopy. Internal uncertainties in the

Stellar abundances of beryllium and CUBES

Stellar abundances of beryllium are useful in different areas of astrophysics, including studies of the Galactic chemical evolution, of stellar evolution, and of the formation of globular clusters.

CD −24°17504 REVISITED: A NEW COMPREHENSIVE ELEMENT ABUNDANCE ANALYSIS

With [Fe/H] ∼ −3.3, CD −24°17504 is a canonical metal-poor main-sequence turn-off star. Though it has appeared in numerous literature studies, the most comprehensive abundance analysis for the star

CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF THE NINTH MAGNITUDE CARBON-ENHANCED METAL-POOR STAR BD+44°493

We present detailed chemical abundances for the bright carbon-enhanced metal-poor (CEMP) star BD+44°493, previously reported on by Ito et al. Our measurements confirm that BD+44°493 is an extremely

Be and O in the ultra metal-poor dwarf 2MASS J18082002-5104378: the Be–O correlation

Context. Measurable amounts of Be could have been synthesised primordially if the Universe were non-homogeneous or in the presence of late decaying relic particles. Aims. We investigate the Be

Beryllium in Disk and Halo Stars: Evidence for a Beryllium Dispersion in Old Stars

The study of Be in stars of differing metal content can elucidate the formation mechanisms and the Galactic chemical evolution of the light element, Be. We have obtained high-resolution, high

Oxygen in Unevolved Metal-Poor Stars from Keck Ultraviolet HIRES Spectra

The determination of the abundance of oxygen (O) is important in our understanding of mass–spectrum of previous generations of stars, the evolution of the Galaxy, stellar evolution, and the

Beryllium in Ultra-Lithium-Deficient Halo Stars: The Blue Straggler Connection

There exists a small group of metal-deficient stars that have Li abundances well below the Li plateau that is defined by over 100 unevolved stars with temperatures above 5800 K and values of [Fe/H] <

Oxygen Abundances in Unevolved Metal-poor Stars from Near-Ultraviolet OH Lines

Beryllium abundances and star formation in the halo and in the thick disk

Context. Beryllium is a pure product of cosmic ray spallation. This implies a relatively simple evolution in time of the beryllium abundance and suggests its use as a time-like observable. Aims. Our
