Two colonies of Formica sanguinea L a t r . were artificially supplied with great numbers ( 2 3 0 , 0 0 0 & 2 5 0 , 0 0 0 ) of pupae of F. polyctena F o e r s t . This was the beginning of mixed colonies with enormous predominance of atypical slaves ( 9 6 % & 8 0 % ) . The mixed swarms lived without conflicts during the year they were formed.
