The DAML-S Process Model is designed to support the application of AI planning techniques to the automated composition of Web services. SHOP2 is an Hierarchical Task Network (HTN) planner well-suited for working with the Process Model. We have proven the correspondence between the semantics of SHOP2 and the situation calculus semantics of the Process Model. We have also implemented a system which soundly and completely plans over sets of DAML-S descriptions using a SHOP2 planner, and then… Expand
Automated Composition of Web Services by Planning at the Knowledge Level
TLDR
This paper starts from descriptions of web services in standard process modeling and execution languages and automatically translates them into a planning domain that models the interactions among services at the knowledge level, to avoid the explosion of the search space due to the usually large and possibly infinite ranges of data values that are exchanged among services. Expand
A PDDL Based Tool for Automatic Web Service Composition
TLDR
A tool is presented that transforms web service composition problems into AI planning problems and delegates them to the planners most suitable for the particular planning task. Expand
Automated Web Service Composition Using Extended Representation of Planning Domain
TLDR
The main contribution of this paper is the extension of the model of actions to handle the creation or elimination of objects as effects of actions, which allows to answer to new and more expressive requests, called implicit requests, in which goals may contain objects that have been generated by the plan. Expand
Automated composition of Web services via planning in asynchronous domains
TLDR
A novel planning framework for the automated composition of web services that are specified and implemented in industrial standard languages for business processes modeling and execution, like BPEL4WS, based on state of the art techniques for planning under uncertainty. Expand
Automated Composition of Semantic Web Services into Executable Processes
TLDR
A planning technique for the automated composition of web services described in OWLS process models, which can deal effectively with nondeterminism, partial observability, and complex goals is proposed and implemented in a planner. Expand
Semantic Web Services Composition Using AI Planning of Description Logics
TLDR
This work proposes a DAG-based method to generate the planning process and filtering the inappropriate services during the DAG generation process for service composition based on description logics and AI planning technologies. Expand
Applications of SHOP and SHOP2
We design the simple hierarchical ordered planner (SHOP) and its successor, SHOP2, with two goals in mind: to investigate research issues in automated planning and to provide some simple, practicalExpand
A Hierarchical Framework for Composing Nested Web Processes
TLDR
This paper model the composition problem using a semi-Markov decision process (SMDP) that generalizes MDPs by allowing actions to be temporally extended and uses these actions to represent the invocation of lower level Web processes whose execution times are uncertain and different from simple service invocations. Expand
Semantic Service Composition and Co-ordination in CASCOM
TLDR
This paper presents an agent-based approach where process execution is distributed among a set of agents where a dedicated planning component composes semantic services based on the particular goals of an ap- plication. Expand
A Formal Model for Semantic Web Service Composition
TLDR
An innovative and formal model for an AI planning-oriented composition of Web service composition is presented and supports a semantic context in order to find a correct, complete, consistent and optimal plan as a solution. Expand

Simulation, verification and automated composition of web services
TLDR
This paper defines the semantics for a relevant subset of DAML-S in terms of a first-order logical language and provides decision procedures for Web service simulation, verification and composition. Expand
DAML-S: Semantic Markup for Web Services
TLDR
The overall structure of the ontology, the service profile for advertising services, and the process model for the detailed description of the operation of services are described, which compare DAML-S with several industry efforts to define standards for characterizing services on the Web. Expand
Adapting Golog for Composition of Semantic Web Services
TLDR
It is argued that an augmented version of the logic programming language Golog provides a natural formalism for automatically composing services on the Semantic Web and logical criteria for these generic procedures that define when they are knowledge self-sufficient and physically selfsufficient are proposed. Expand
DAML-S: Web Service Description for the Semantic Web
TLDR
DAML-S is presented, a DAML+OIL ontology for describing the properties and capabilities of Web Services, and three aspects of the ontology are described: the service profile, the process model, and the service grounding. Expand
Delivering Semantic Web Services
TLDR
The problems related with autonomous Web Services, and how DAMLS provides the information to solve them are discussed, and the implementation of two demonstration systems that use emerging technology based on DAML-S and the Semantic Web are described. Expand
Value-Added Web Services Composition Using Automatic Program Synthesis
TLDR
The basic idea of the approach is applying the software synthesis and composition methods to value added web services composition and some technical details within the approach are described, in particular, a web service description language and a program synthesis method. Expand
Total-Order Planning with Partially Ordered Subtasks
TLDR
The experimental results suggest that in some problem domains, the difficulty of writing SHOP knowledge bases derives from SHOP's total-ordering requirement--and that in such cases, SHOP2 can plan as efficiently as SHOP using knowledge bases simpler than those needed by SHOP. Expand
SHOP2: An HTN Planning System
TLDR
The features of SHOP2 which enabled it to excel in the competition are described, especially those aspects of SHop2 that deal with temporal and metric planning domains. Expand

Interleaving Planning and Execution in a Multiagent Team Planning Environment
TLDR
HITaP is a planner that interleaves planning and execution that plays a crucial role in an agent's ability to construct shared plans with other agents and to manage the negotiation process that leads to agreement with the agent's teammates on these plans. Expand
