One of the basic tasks that a modern CAD system should be able to accomplish, is the generation of a 'fair' or 'visually pleasing' curve from given data points. Even when a very efficient curve scheme like B-splines is used, it is quite possible that for some data sets the resulting curve is not fair enough.
