A microprocessor-based computer system has been developed for the dedicated acquisition of data associated with the deceleration characteristics of trains in a rapid transit system. The computer collects braking profiles (velocity and position) along a 4325-ft. section of track prior to station entry, at one-foot intervals. These data, occupying a volume of about 8K bytes per train, are stored on tape and transmitted to a remote microprocessor during non-revenue periods. The remote computer…
