Automatic Generation of Mapping Functions for Infinite Elements Using REDUCE

Abstract

Co continuous basis functions for use in the finite element method when the elements extend to infinity in one or more directions can be derived simply following the method of Zienkiewicz . The numerical code for these functions can be generated autosnatically using computer algebra languages such as REDUCE . This paper describes the method and explains how REDUCE is used to easily produce numerical code .
