Heat event detection in dairy cows with collar sensors: An unsupervised machine learning approach
- Mathematics2015 IEEE SENSORS
- 2015
The detection of heat (estrus) events in pasture-based dairy cows fitted with on-animal sensors was investigated using an unsupervised learning. Accelerometer data from the cow collar sensors were…
Monitoring Cattle Motion using 3-axis Acceleration and GPS Data
- 2014
This paper examines feasibility of a cattle monitoring device that can sense, record, and wirelessly transmit the 3-axis acceleration and global positioning system (GPS) data of the cow for accurate…

Automatic Detection of Cow’s Oestrus in Audio Surveillance System
- Computer ScienceAsian-Australasian journal of animal sciences
- 2013
This paper proposes an efficient data mining solution for the detection of oestrus, using the sound data of Korean native cows (Bos taurus coreanea) to extract mel frequency cepstrum coefficients from sound data with a feature dimension reduction, and uses the support vector data description as an early anomaly detector.
Evaluation of a neck mounted 2-hourly activity meter system for detecting cows about to ovulate in two paddock-based Australian dairy herds.
- Biology, MedicineReproduction in domestic animals = Zuchthygiene
- 2010
Results from these studies show that in paddock-based dairy cows in two diverse management systems, this neck-mounted activity meter system detects high proportions of cows that are about to ovulate and provides a useful indication of when ovulation is likely to occur, however, the specificities and positive predictive values using the algorithms assessed may be lower than desirable.

- Computer ScienceIEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, Part C (Applications and Reviews)
- 2004
This paper reviews recent developments and general strategies of the processing framework of visual surveillance in dynamic scenes, and analyzes possible research directions, e.g., occlusion handling, a combination of two and three-dimensional tracking, and fusion of information from multiple sensors, and remote surveillance.
