Epidermolysis bullosa acquisita is an autoimmune blistering disease characterized by circulating and skin basement membrane-bound IgG autoantibodies to type VII collagen, a major structural protein of the dermal-epidermal junction. Regulatory T cells (T(reg)) suppress self antigen-mediated autoimmune responses.
