BACKGROUND Treatment of fetal pancreas (FP) isografts with insulin-like growth factor-I greatly improves the rate of conversion to euglycemia in diabetic rats. Complete knowledge of other factors that may facilitate the engraftment and function of FP in vivo is still embryonic.
