The attractant Lursect TM was formulated with sugar-toxicant baits and used for area-wide control of Hippelates collusor (Townsend) in California. Spot treatment with the formulation using 1 lb/20 acres reduced populations to very low levels after 2–3 treatments of an isolated agricultural ranch. Continuous treatment (twice weekly) in late 1970 of several golf courses and adjacent agricultural areas breeding H. collusor yielded rapid decline of populations in 4–6 wk. TLDR
A number of chemical compositions known to attract several synanthropic and pest fly species were tested against the Australian bush fly, finding that there are other chemical attractants emanating from dung that warrant isolation and identification work.
