Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by a persistent and pervasive pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity. Emerging data suggest higher than expected rates of binge eating occur in subjects with ADHD. Several hypotheses may explain this newly described comorbidity: 1) inattention and/or impulsivity foster binge eating, 2) ADHD and binge eating share common neurobiological bases, 3) binge eating contributes to ADHD, or 4) psychopathological factors…
Are Eating Disorders Related to Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder?
TLDR
The relationship between ADHD and binge eating is novel, supported by growing evidence and worthy of further research.
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder symptoms and psychological comorbidity in eating disorder patients
TLDR
The comorbidity between ADHD and ED appeared to be frequent, particularly among patients with AN-BP, and ED inpatients with higher level of anxiety and more abnormal eating attitudes and bulimic symptoms should be assessed for potentially associated ADHD.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and eating disorders.
TLDR
The presence of eating disorders in ADHD patients could partially explain previously described growth and weight changes.
The Relationship Between Binge Eating and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
TLDR
It was found that there is a significant association between ADHD and binge eating in clinical populations, and anti-ADHD medications such as atomoxetine have been used independently in trials to treat obesity and BED.
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
TLDR
Current recommendations for evaluating ADHD include the use of interviews and cross-informant and normed rating scales for children and adults with suspected ADHD and initial support for the application of cognitive-behavioral treatment of ADHD symptoms in adults.
The Comorbidity of ADHD and Eating Disorders in a Nationally Representative Sample
TLDR
Investigation of the association between both clinical and subclinical ADHD and eating disorders via a secondary data analysis of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health reveals that those with clinical ADHD are more likely to experience clinical eating disorder, clinical-level binging and/or purging behaviors, andclinical-level restrictive behaviors.
Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Associations with Overeating and Obesity

    Current psychiatry reports

TLDR
It is suggested that the inattentive and impulsive behaviors that characterize ADHD could contribute to overeating in the current food environment, with its emphasis on fast food consumption and its many food temptations.
The complexity of the interaction between binge-eating and attention
TLDR
Binge-eating is not associated with attention deficits as measured by objective neuropsychological tools, Nonetheless, it is associated with Attentional difficulties as measured with the self-reported ADHD-RS.
Health Concerns Regarding Children and Adolescents with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder with prevalence estimates ranging from 5 to 8 % of elementary-age children, and most cases persist into
Attention-deficit hyperactivity symptoms and disorder in eating disorder inpatients.
TLDR
Although current ADHD symptoms were commonly endorsed in this population, clinicians should carefully examine for childhood symptom-onset of ADHD.

Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder
TLDR
Converging evidence from animal and human studies implicates the dysregulation of frontal-subcortical-cerebellar catecholaminergic circuits in the pathophysiology of ADHD, and molecular imaging studies suggest that abnormalities of the dopamine transporter lead to impaired neurotransmission.
[Comorbid eating disorders in a Brazilian attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder adult clinical sample].
TLDR
Attention deficity hyperactivity disorder clinical samples may have a high prevalence of BED comorbidity, and patients with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and eating disorders may haveA differentComorbid profile.
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A Selective Overview
TLDR
Structural and functional imaging studies suggest that dysfunction in the fronto-subcortical pathways, as well as imbalances in the dopaminergic and noradrenergic systems, contribute to the pathophysiology of ADHD.
Association between attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and bulimia nervosa: analysis of 4 case-control studies.
TLDR
Findings suggest that ADHD may be associated with bulimia nervosa in some women, and this association could have important clinical and therapeutic implications.
Gender effects on Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity disorder in adults, revisited
TLDR
Findings in this study bear striking similarities to findings reported in pediatric samples, supporting the validity of ADHD and stressing the importance of identifying and treating the disorder in adulthood.
Association between symptoms of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and bulimic behaviors in a clinical sample of severely obese adolescents
TLDR
Obese adolescents with bulimic behaviors may have a higher probability to present with ADHD symptoms independently from associated depressive or anxiety symptoms, which may lead to a better understanding of the effectiveness of stimulants for the treatment of bulimi behaviors in obese subjects.

Gender differences in a sample of adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
TLDR
Whether ADHD is a valid clinical entity in female subjects and whether it is expressed differently in male and female adults is explored and the viability and importance of identification of female subjects with ADHD is stressed.
Binge eating disorder: disorder or marker?
TLDR
Although there is consensus on the criteria for BED, its great variability limits the implications that can be drawn from its diagnosis, and it may be most useful as a marker of psychopathology.
Bulimia nervosa and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: a possible role for stimulant medication.
TLDR
6 patients with comorbid bulimia and ADHD who were treated with the stimulant medication, dextroamphetamine report complete abstinence from binge eating and purging after treatment with psychostimulants, and none of the patients discontinued taking the medication because of side effects.
