Objective: To test the hypothesis that atomoxetine does not significantly worsen tic severity relative to placebo in children and adolescents with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and comorbid tic disorders. Methods: Study subjects were 7 to 17 years old, met Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders–IV criteria for ADHD, and had concurrent Tourette syndrome or chronic motor tic disorder. Patients were randomly assigned to double-blind treatment with placebo (n = 72…

Atomoxetine Treatment of ADHD in Children With Comorbid Tourette Syndrome
TLDR
Atomoxetine is efficacious for treatment of ADHD and its use appears well tolerated in ADHD patients with comorbid TS.
Atomoxetine treatment in adolescents with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
TLDR
In adolescents with ADHD, treatment benefit at 8 weeks was better maintained long-term with 1.4 mg/ kg/day than with 0.8 mg/kg/day, and improvement in adaptive functioning and age-appropriate developmental function was also demonstrated.
Effect of Atomoxetine on Executive Function Impairments in Adults With ADHD
TLDR
Once-daily atomoxetine can improve executive function impairments in adults with ADHD as assessed by the Brown Attention-Deficit Disorder Scale.
Meta-analysis: treatment of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in children with comorbid tic disorders.
TLDR
Methylphenidate seems to offer the greatest and most immediate improvement of ADHD symptoms and does not seem to worsen tic symptoms, and alpha-2 agonists offer the best combined improvement in both tic and ADHD symptoms.
Duloxetine in Adults With ADHD
TLDR
Duloxetine may be a therapeutic option for adults with ADHD, but further studies are required to replicate these findings in larger samples.
Tic Exacerbation and Precipitation during Atomoxetine Treatment in Two Children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
TLDR
Both cases experienced a decrease in tic activity when atomoxetine was discontinued, but tics did not fully resolve, causing psychosocial disturbance, and independent controlled studies are needed to determine if atomxetine should be used in children with ADHD and comorbid tic disorders or TS.
Evaluation of atomoxetine for first-line treatment of newly diagnosed, treatment-naïve children and adolescents with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder
TLDR
A continued improvement of symptoms is expectable until 12 weeks in treatment-naïve ADHD patients treated with atomoxetine as first-line medication.
An Open-Label, Randomized Trial of Methylphenidate and Atomoxetine Treatment in Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.
TLDR
After 24 weeks of treatment, OROS-methylphenidate and atomoxetine had comparable efficacy in reducing core ADHD symptoms in drug-naïve children and adolescents with ADHD.
Use of Atomoxetine in Patients with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Co-Morbid Conditions
TLDR
Atomoxetine is a specific, noradrenergic reuptake inhibitor that provides an effective treatment option for patients with ADHD and co-morbid conditions and may have potential in improving co-occurring symptoms of anxiety and may be useful in patients with co-Morbid conditions such as tics or Tourette's syndrome.
