The scavenger receptor class B, type I (SR-BI) mediates selective cholesteryl ester uptake by the liver and thereby exerts a systemic anti-atherogenic effect. It is unknown, however, whether exogenous cholesterol contributes to the regulation of hepatic SR-BI expression.
