The secular study of the Bible has identified, in what constitutes the sacred book of believers, a type of historical chronicle as well as a literary work in which writings of different genres have been intermingled. In the course of such study the discovery of Ugarit marked an exceptional moment that completely transformed our knowledge of the Canaanite origins of Israelite religion.
