The asymptotics of the Kohn-Sham (KS) exact exchange potential Vx(z) of a jelliumlike semiinfinite metal is investigated, in the framework of the optimized-effective-potential formalism of density-functional theory. Our numerical calculations clearly show that deep into the vacuum side of the surface Vx(z) ∝ e2 ln(az)/z, with a being a system-dependent constant, thus confirming the analytical calculations reported in Phys. Rev. B 81, 121106(R) (2010). A criticism of this work published in Phys…

The exact exchange of density functional theory is applied to both free-standing graphene and a Si(111) slab, using the plane-wave pseudopotential (PWPP) approach and a periodic repetition of the
Asymptotic Behavior of the Exchange‐Correlation Energy Density and the Kohn‐Sham Potential in Density Functional Theory: Exact Results and Strategy for Approximations
Density functional theory (DFT) is nowadays the leading theoretical framework for quantum description of materials from first principles. Being an exact theory on one hand and computationally

An alternative proof of these relations is given, in which the Coulomb singularity in the EXX energy is treated in a particularly careful fashion, and the derivation of the next-to-leading order contributions to the asymptotic v x and e x is allowed.
Density functional approach to the dynamic response at metal surfaces: van der Waals reference plane position and excitation of electron-hole pairs
The time-dependent density functional approach is used to calculate the response of a metal surface to uniform external fields that vary exponentially in time. The frequency dependence of the dynamic
Semilocal density functionals and constraint satisfaction
We discuss six questions related to the recent “strongly constrained and appropriately normed” (SCAN) meta-generalized gradient approximation (meta-GGA): (1) When and why should a semilocal
Gedanken densities and exact constraints in density functional theory.
A strongly and optimally tightened bound is derived on the exchange enhancement factor of a two-electron density, which is satisfied by the local density approximation but is violated by all published GGA's or meta-GGA's.
Prescription for the design and selection of density functional approximations: more constraint satisfaction with fewer fits.
It is argued for the theoretical and practical importance of recovering the correct uniform density limit, which many semiempirical functionals fail to do.
