We analyze the behavior of the magnetic-monopole equations as a function of the ratio of Higgs-scalar-to-vector-meson mass M/sub H//M/sub W/. For very small M/sub H//M/sub W/, we find that the mass of the monopole deviates from the Prasad-Sommerfield limit M/sub W//..cap alpha.. by M/sub H//2..cap alpha.., independently of the particular details of the symmetry-breaking potential. In the opposite limit M/sub H//M/sub W/..-->..infinity, the scalar field contributes negligibly to the mass, which… Expand
The ′T Hooft-Polyakov monopole near the Prasad-Sommerfield limit
A perturbative classical monopole solution for the SO(3) gauge theory is constructed in the limit of small but non-vanishing Higgs potential. This corresponds to the limit ..mu../sup 2//2M/sup 2//subExpand
Numerical and asymptotic analysis of the 't Hooft-Polyakov magnetic monopole
A high precision numerical analysis of the static, spherically symmetric SU(2) magnetic monopole equations is carried out. Using multi-shooting and multi-domain spectral methods, the mass of theExpand
ACCOUNTING FOR THE FINITENESS OF THE HIGGS BOSON MASS IN THE 3D GEORGI GLASHOW MODEL
(2 + 1)-dimensional Georgi–Glashow model is explored in the regime when the Higgs boson is not infinitely heavy, but its mass is of the same order of magnitude as the mass of the W-boson. In theExpand
Monopole-Based Scenarios of Confinement and Deconfinement in 3D and 4D
This review discusses confinement, as well as the topological and critical phenomena, in the gauge theories which provide the condensation of magnetic monopoles. These theories include the 3D SU(N)Expand
Magnetic monopole dynamics, supersymmetry, and duality
Abstract We review the properties of BPS, or supersymmetric, magnetic monopoles, with an emphasis on their low-energy dynamics and their classical and quantum bound states. After an overview ofExpand
Dark monopoles in Grand Unified Theories
A bstractWe consider a Yang-Mills-Higgs theory with gauge group G = SU(n) broken to Gv = [SU(p) × SU(n − p) × U(1)]/Z by a Higgs field in the adjoint representation. We obtain monopole solutionsExpand
Monopole-Based Scenarios of Confinement and Deconfinement in 3 D and 4 D
This review discusses confinement, as well as the topological and critical phenomena, in the gauge theories which provide the condensation of magnetic monopoles. These theories include the 3D SU(N )Expand
Higgs-inspired corrections to the RG flow in the finite-temperature 3D Georgi-Glashow model and its SU(N)-generalization
The Berezinsky-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) RG flow in the ensemble of monopoles existing in the finite-temperature (2+1)D Georgi-Glashow model is explored in the regime when the Higgs field is notExpand
The abelian confinement mechanism revisited: new aspects of the Georgi-Glashow model
The confinement problem remains one of the most difficult problems in theoretical physics. An important step toward the solution of this problem is the Polyakov's work on abelian confinement. TheExpand
k-string tensions in the 3-d SU(N) Georgi-Glashow model
The classic argument by Polyakov showing that monopoles produce confinement in the Higgs phase of the Georgi-Glashow model is generalized to study the spectrum of k-strings. We find that theExpand
