Asymptotic Observables and the Swampland

  title={Asymptotic Observables and the Swampland},
  author={Tom Rudelius},
We show that constraints on scalar field potentials and towers of light massive states in asymptotic limits of scalar field space (as posited by the de Sitter Conjecture and the Swampland Distance Conjecture, respectively) are correlated with the prospects for defining asymptotic observables in expanding FRW cosmologies. The observations of a “census taker” in an eternally inflating cosmology are further related to the question of whether certain domain walls satisfy a version of the Weak… Expand

On the cosmological implications of the string Swampland
Abstract We study constraints imposed by two proposed string Swampland criteria on cosmology. These criteria involve an upper bound on the range traversed by scalar fields as well as a lower bound onExpand
Cosmology and the S matrix
We study conditions for the existence of asymptotic observables in cosmology. With the exception of de Sitter space, the thermal properties of accelerating universes permit arbitrarily longExpand
The landscape, the swampland and the era of precision cosmology
We review the advanced version of the KKLT construction and pure $d=4$ de Sitter supergravity, involving a nilpotent multiplet, with regard to various conjectures that de Sitter state cannot exist inExpand
de Sitter swampland conjecture and the Higgs potential
According to a conjecture recently put forward in arXiv:1806.08362, the scalar potential $V$ of any consistent theory of quantum gravity satisfies a bound $|\nabla V|/V \geq {\cal O}(1)$. ThisExpand
de Sitter Bubbles and the Swampland
A number of Swampland conjectures and in particular the Trans-Planckian Censorship Conjecture (TCC) suggest that de Sitter space is highly unstable if it exists at all. In this paper we constructExpand
The asymptotic dS Swampland Conjecture - a simplified derivation and a potential loophole.
Recently, arguments for a refined de Sitter conjecture were put forward in arXiv:1810.05506. Using the large distance conjecture of arXiv:hep-th/0605264, the authors provide evidence for this dSExpand
Non-supersymmetric AdS and the Swampland
We propose to sharpen the weak gravity conjecture by the statement that, except for BPS states in a supersymmetric theory, the gravitational force is strictly weaker than any electric force andExpand
On the Geometry of the String Landscape and the Swampland
We make a number of conjectures about the geometry of continuous moduli parameterizing the string landscape. In particular we conjecture that such moduli are always given by expectation value ofExpand
$H_0$ Tension, Swampland Conjectures and the Epoch of Fading Dark Matter
Motivated by the swampland dS conjecture, we consider a rolling scalar field as the source of dark energy. Furthermore, the swampland distance conjecture suggests that the rolling field will lead atExpand
Emergence of Weak Coupling at Large Distance in Quantum Gravity.
The Ooguri-Vafa swampland conjectures claim that in any consistent theory of quantum gravity, a tower of particles will become light at a rate that is exponential in the field-space distance, and this work provides a novel viewpoint on this claim. Expand
