We present an efficient method to synthesize three new asymmetric trimethine cyanine dyes containing only one carboxylic acid group for bioconjugation. Two of them have better protein labeling performance than other conventional cyanine dyes due to their particular structure design.

Modern approaches to the synthesis and prospects for the use of cyanine dyes containing functional groups in the N-substituents
Methods for the synthesis of mono-, tri-, penta- and heptamethine cyanine dyes containing functional groups in N-substituents are considered. Approaches suitable for the preparation of both
A novel sulfonated prosthetic group for [18F]-radiolabelling and imparting water solubility of biomolecules and cyanine fluorophores.
TLDR
The ability of this unusual prosthetic group to readily introduce the radioisotope within complex (bio)molecular architectures has been demonstrated by the preparation of the first [(18)F]-labelled cyanine 5.5 (Cy 5. 5) dye.
Amine-Reactive Activated Esters of meso-CarboxyBODIPY: Fluorogenic Assays and Labeling of Amines, Amino Acids, and Proteins.
TLDR
The large 'turn-on' response is a testament of the extreme sensitivity of meso-carboxyBODIPYs to the minimal changes in electronic properties that distinguish esters from amides.
OFF/ON Red-Emitting Fluorescent Probes for Casein Recognition and Quantification Based on Indolium Derivatives
TLDR
A novel casein quantitative assay method was developed and the method was applied to determinate casein in milk powder samples, and the results were in good agreement with Biuret method.

Cyanine dye labeling reagents: sulfoindocyanine succinimidyl esters.
TLDR
A series of new fluorescent labeling reagents based on sulfoindocyanine dyes contain succinimidyl ester reactive groups and can be readily conjugated to antibodies, avidin, DNA, lipids, polymers, and other amino-group-containing materials.
Noncovalent labeling of biomolecules with red and near- infrared dyes.
TLDR
The applications of luminescent cyanine and squarylium dyes are reviewed and the main advantage of noncovalent labeling is that it affects the functional activity of the biomolecule to a lesser extent.
Novel water-soluble near-infrared cyanine dyes: synthesis, spectral properties, and use in the preparation of internally quenched fluorescent probes.
TLDR
Unexpectedly, when these two fluorophores were closely associated within a peptidic architecture, mutual fluorescence quenching between NIR5.5-2 and NIR7.0-2 was observed both at 705 and 798 nm, and a novel internally quenched caspase-3-sensitive NIR fluorescent probe was prepared.
Picomolar assay of native proteins by capillary electrophoresis precolumn labeling, submicellar separation, and laser-induced fluorescence detection.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that, through careful manipulation of the separation and reaction conditions, high sensitivity can be obtained without excessive loss in separation efficiency.
