To the Editors: We have read the recent article by Chuang et al. (2012) with great interest. They studied the effects of long-term antiepileptic drug (AED) monotherapy on vascular risk factors and atherosclerosis. They proved that treatment with carbamazepine (CBZ), phenytoin, or valproic acid (VPA) is significantly associated with acceleration of atherosclerosis in patients with epilepsy.
