Bioassay-guided fractionation of the n-BuOH extract of the starfish Culcita novaeguineae resulted in the isolation of one new sulfated steroidal glycoside (asterosaponin) (1), along with three known asterosaponins, thornasteroside A (2), marthasteroside A(1) (3) and regularoside A (4), as active compounds causing morphological abnormality of Pyricularia oryzae mycelia.
