Inflammation plays a key role in the progression of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Here, we examined the effects of astaxanthin (ATX) on the inflammatory response and secondary damage after SAH and the underlying mechanisms of action. In vivo, a prechiasmatic cistern injection model was established in rats and mice. In addition, neuron‐microglia cocultures were exposed to oxyhemoglobin to mimic SAH in vitro. Western blotting revealed that protein expression of TLR4 was markedly increased in… Expand
Fucoxanthin Mitigates Subarachnoid Hemorrhage-Induced Oxidative Damage via Sirtuin 1-Dependent Pathway.
TLDR
It is explored that Fucoxanthin provided protection against SAH-induced oxidative insults by inducing Sirt1 signaling, indicating that Fx might serve as a potential therapeutic drug for SAH. Expand

TLDR
It is suggested that berberine provides beneficial effects against SAH-triggered cerebral inflammation by inhibiting HMGB1/Nf-κB pathway, which may be modulated by SIRT1 activation. Expand
Targeting CCL20 inhibits subarachnoid hemorrhage-related neuroinflammation in mice
TLDR
CCL20-neutralizing antibody alleviated SAH-induced neurological deficits, decreased brain water content and neuronal apoptosis, and repressed microglial activation, and CCL20 or CCR6 knockdown reversed the effects of OxyHb on microglia. Expand
Protective effects of astaxanthin on subarachnoid hemorrhage-induced early brain injury: Reduction of cerebral vasospasm and improvement of neuron survival and mitochondrial function.
TLDR
Astaxanthin attenuates SAH-induced EBI, possibly by improving neuronal survival and mitochondrial function, and inhibited mitochondria-associated neuron apoptosis in the prefrontal cortex after SAH. Expand
MFG-E8 attenuates inflammation in subarachnoid hemorrhage by driving microglial M2 polarization
TLDR
RhMFG-E8 inhibits neuronal inflammation by transformation the microglial phenotype toward M2 and its direct protective effect on neurons after SAH, which may be mediated by modulation of the integrin β3/SOCS3/STAT3 signaling pathway, highlighting rhMFG -E8 as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of SAH patients. HMGB1-Mediated Neuroinflammatory Responses in Brain Injuries: Potential Mechanisms and Therapeutic Opportunities
TLDR
The implication of HMGB1-induced neuroinflammatory responses in these brain injuries, mediated through binding to the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE), toll-like receptor4 (TLR4) and other inflammatory mediators, is discussed. Expand
Pterostilbene Attenuates Cocultured BV-2 Microglial Inflammation-Mediated SH-SY5Y Neuronal Oxidative Injury via SIRT-1 Signalling
TLDR
The results suggest that PTE reduces the microglia-mediated inflammatory response and alleviates subsequent neuronal apoptosis and oxidative injury via increasing SIRT-1 expression and inhibiting the NF-κB signalling pathway. Expand
Astaxanthin protects against early acute kidney injury in severely burned rats by inactivating the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB axis and upregulating heme oxygenase-1
TLDR
The above data suggest that ATX protects against renal inflammation in a dose-related manner by regulating the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB axis and HO-1 and ultimately prevents early AKI following severe burns. Expand
Astaxanthin prevents against lipopolysaccharide-induced acute lung injury and sepsis via inhibiting activation of MAPK/NF-κB.
TLDR
In animal models of L PS-induced sepsis and acute lung injury, administration of ASX significantly improved survival and protected lung injury and was shown to suppress LPS-induced inflammatory factors increase, MAPK phosphorylation, and NF-κB activation in vivo. Expand

Resveratrol Attenuates Acute Inflammatory Injury in Experimental Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in Rats via Inhibition of TLR4 Pathway
TLDR
It is found that post-SAH treatment with RSV could markedly inhibit the expressions of TLR4, HMGB1, MyD88, and NF-κB, leading to the amelioration of neural apoptosis, brain edema, and neurological behavior impairment after SAH. Expand
Sirtuin 1 activation protects against early brain injury after experimental subarachnoid hemorrhage in rats

The results suggest that SIRT1 plays an important role in neuroprotection against EBI after SAH by deacetylation and subsequent inhibition of forkhead transcription factors of the O class, nuclear factor-kappa B- and p53-induced oxidative, inflammatory and apoptotic pathways. Expand

TLDR
It was observed that an ATX intracerebroventricular injection 30 minutes post-SAH could significantly attenuate EBI (including brain edema, blood-brain barrier disruption, neural cell apoptosis, and neurological dysfunction) after SAH in rats, and ATX treatment could prevent oxidative damage and upregulate the endogenous antioxidant levels in the rat cerebral cortex following SAH.
