Protein tyrosine phosphorylation and dephosphorylation have been implicated in the growth and functional responses of hematopoietic cells. Recent studies have identified a novel protein tyrosine phosphatase, termed hematopoietic cell phosphatase (HCP) or PTP1C, that is predominantly expressed in hematopoietic cells.
