Salmonella enteritidis (SE) is a worldwide source of salmonellosis in humans, caused mainly by consumption of contaminated poultry products. The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and class II molecules, which function as antigen-presentation structures, are involved in both macrophage and dendritic cell immune response to Salmonella and may, therefore, play an important role in host resistance to infections.
