Abstract Objective. To investigate the association between orthodontic treatment need (OTN) and caries experience (CE). Subjects and methods. Using a stratified sampling method, 748 subjects (355 females, 393 males; mean ± standard deviation age 15.11 ± 2.23 years) were examined. The Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI), DMFT, simple (DMFT > 0) and severe CE (DMFT > 8) were recorded. Socio-economic status (SES) was assessed by recording parental education, mother's employment status, and household size…

Prevalence of malocclusion and its relationship with caries among school children aged 11 - 15 years in southern India

TLDR
A positive correlation was found between the severity of malocclusion and dental caries and children with a DAI score of > 35 were found to have significantly higher caries experience as compared to other children.

Dental Caries and its Relationship to Malocclusion in Permanent Dentition Among 12-15 Year Old School Going Children

TLDR
The severity of dental caries showed positive relation with DAI and age, and DT and overall DMFT component significantly increased with increasing DAI of malocclusion.

Relationship between the Malocclusion and Caries Prevalence of Adolescents in Iksan

TLDR
The current findings suggested a positive relationship between the malocclusion and caries prevalence and several specific types of maloc inclusion were supposed to be significantly correlated with dental caries.

Relationship between the Dental Aesthetic Index and Discrepancy Index

TLDR
A linear generalised model could be used to predict the complexity of the case from the malocclusion severity (DAI score) and the American Board of Orthodontics Discrepancy Index (ABO-DI) as assessed by the Dental Aesthetic Index.

History of Orthodontic Treatment, Treatment Needs and Influencing Factors in Adolescents in Croatia.

TLDR
Mother's educational level was found to be the most important socio-demographic predictor for children's involvement in orthodontic treatment and the caries experience increased in comparison with the Croatian national survey data from 1999.

TLDR
The results from this population-based study suggest that a connection between caries and malocclusion exists to a limited extent in young adults and orthodontic treatment of anterior crowding would probably not interfere with caries experience.

Caries risk profile using the Cariogram in governmental and private orthodontic patients at de-bonding.

TLDR
The "chance to avoid new cavities" in orthodontic patients at de-bonding was less in the governmental group compared with the private group, as illustrated by the Cariogram.

Impact of malocclusion and dentofacial anomalies on the prevalence and severity of dental caries among adolescents.

TLDR
Handicapping malocclusion, maxillary irregularity, and abnormal molar relationship were associated with the occurrence and severity of dental caries.

Impact of malocclusion and dentofacial anomalies on the prevalence and severity of dental caries among adolescents.

TLDR
Handicapping malocclusion, maxillary irregularity, and abnormal molar relationship were associated with the occurrence and severity of dental caries.

The relationship between aging and oral health inequalities assessed by the DMFT index.

TLDR
With increase in age, there was an upward trend in caries prevalence and mean DMFT and significant positive correlations existed between the participant's age and DMFT.

Assessment of orthodontic treatment need in 11- to 20-year-old urban Iranian children using the Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI).

TLDR
21.8% of the evaluated Iranian school children in the authors' sample had a DAI score above or equal to 31 points, suggesting highly desirable or mandatory orthodontic treatment need, according to the Dental Aesthetic Index.

The relationship between aging and oral health inequalities assessed by the DMFT index.

TLDR
With increase in age, there was an upward trend in caries prevalence and mean DMFT and significant positive correlations existed between the participant's age and DMFT.

The life course approach: explaining the association between height and dental caries in Brazilian adolescents.

TLDR
There is a relationship between height and dental caries experience in this sample of Brazilian adolescents, and being a taller adolescent had a protective effect onCaries experience.

Prevalence and factors related to malocclusion and orthodontic treatment need in children and adolescents in Italy.

TLDR
A high proportion of children needs normative orthodontic treatment and perceptions of orthodentic treatment do not overlap with normative need.

Orthodontic treatment outcomes in the long term: findings from a longitudinal study of New Zealanders.

TLDR
This study has found the equity, efficacy, effectiveness, and safety of orthodontic treatment in the Dunedin cohort to be acceptable.

The association between tooth irregularity and plaque accumulation, gingivitis, and caries in 11-12-year-old children.

TLDR
Irregular teeth retained more plaque than straight teeth by a modest though statistically significant (p<0.05) extent, but no significant differences in the incidence of gingivitis or dental caries were found.

Prevalence of malocclusions in Hungarian adolescents.

TLDR
The prevalence of malocclusion in the Hungarian population seems to be comparable with other European communities, and the decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT, DMFS), and the visible plaque indices scores (VPI) of the 340 adolescents with maloc inclusion were significantly higher than those of the adolescents who displayed no anomalies.

A comparison between DAI and SCAN in estimating orthodontic treatment need.

TLDR
The findings indicated that the two indices could be used consistently and that the association between the DAI and the SCAN Index was highly statistically significant.

Variability in recording and grading the need for orthodontic treatment using the handicapping malocclusion assessment record, occlusal index and dental aesthetic index.

This investigation evaluates three malocclusion treatment need indices, the Handicapping Malocclusion Assessment Record (HMAR), the Occlusal Index (OI) and the Dental Aesthetic Index (DAI), for

Parental occupational status related to dental caries experience in 7-year-old children in Flanders (Belgium).

TLDR
The results of the study allow the supposition that social inequalities in oral health among children in Flanders exist and partially explain why social class might influence oral health.
