Phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) catalyses the hydrolysis of phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate to generate diacylglycerol and inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate, these two second messengers mediate a wide variety of cellular stimuli.
