Reliable techniques for detecting and localising abnormal parathyroid tissue have been a persistent problem. We have evaluated thallium-pertechnetate subtraction scintigraphy in a prospective study of 40 patients with clinical and biochemical evidence of hyperparathyroidism prior to parathyroid surgery.
