Assessment of genetic diversity in old world and new world cotton cultivars using RAPD and ISSR markers

  title={Assessment of genetic diversity in old world and new world cotton cultivars using RAPD and ISSR markers},
  author={J. Kahodariya and Pritesh H. Sabara and D. Vakharia},
In the present investigation, 15 cotton cultivars (8 old world and 7 new world cotton) were used to assess genetic diversity through dominant PCR based markers (21 RAPD and 9 ISSR primers). RAPD (Random amplified polymorphic DNA) primers produced in total 245 bands, of which 241 were polymorphic with 98.36% polymorphism. While ISSR (Inter simple sequence repeats) primers gave 85 bands, of which 81 were polymorphic constituting 95.29% polymorphism. Dendrogram showed clear grouping between old… Expand

Analysis of Genetic Diversity in Napier Grass (Pennisetum purpureum Schum) as Detected by RAPD and ISSR Markers
The UPGMA clustering of genotypes eventhough was not similar when RAPD and ISSR derived dendrograms were compared, but showed a greater correspondence with geographical identity in both the marker systems employed. Expand
RAPD and ISSR fingerprints as useful genetic markers for analysis of genetic diversity, varietal identification, and phylogenetic relationships in peanut (Arachis hypogaea) cultivars and wild species.
The present results strongly support the view that Arachis monticola and hypogaea are very closely related, and indicate that A. villosa and A. ipaensis are the diploid wild progenitors of these tetraploid species. Expand
Genetic Diversity in Elite Cotton Germplasm Lines Using Field Performance and Rapd Markers
This experiment demonstrated that simultaneously RAPD analysis and yield evaluation are useful for characterizing genetic diversity and defining relationships between cotton germplasm lines. Expand
Estimation of genetic divergence among some cotton varieties by RAPD analysis
The RAPD analysis indicates that it may be a more efficient marker than morphological marker, isozyme and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) technology, and can be used in selecting divergent parents for breeding and mapping purposes. Expand
Characterization of genetic diversity in Jatropha curcas L. germplasm using RAPD and ISSR markers
The genetic relationships of 29 J. curcas accessions were assessed based on randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) analyses, showing good fit correlation between RAPD and ISSR based similarities. Expand

ISSR Markers as a Tool for the Assessment of Genetic Diversity in Passiflora
The results indicate that ISSR can be useful for genetic diversity studies, to provide practical information for parental selection and to assist breeding and conservation strategies, and good resolution of genetic diversity in passion fruit germplasm using ISSR markers. Expand
Analogy of ISSR and RAPD markers for comparative analysis of genetic diversity among different Jatropha curcas genotypes
Both the markers are equally important for genetic diversity analysis in Jatropha curcas, as they detected 84.26% as compared to 76.54% for ISSR markers, and the regression test between the two Nei’s genetic diversity indexes showed low regression between RAPD and ISSR based similarities. Expand
Relative efficiency of DNA markers (RAPD, ISSR and AFLP) in detecting genetic diversity of bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.)
Diversity assessment conducted using different DNA marker systems amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP), inter simple sequence repeat (ISSR) and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers will be helpful in the establishment of a broad-based description for improved germplasm curation and the identification of germ plasm for genome mapping and breeding of bitter gourd.
