Abstract The aim of the study was to measure serum levels of the bone-specific isoenzyme of alkaline phosphatase in normal subjects and patients with metabolic bone disease by using an immunoadsorption assay. We studied 140 healthy adults, 122 patients affected by metabolic bone disease and 15 patients with cholestatic liver disease. Mean values of the bone-specific isoenzyme of alkaline phosphatase in healthy men were significantly higher than those found in premenopausal women (17.8 ± 4.2 U/l…

Gender Differences in Serum Markers of Bone Resorption in Healthy Subjects and Patients with Disorders Affecting Bone
TLDR
Compared with normal subjects, serum βCTx seems to be characterized by a superior sensitivity relative to TRAP measurement, at least in the disorders studied.
Study of Biochemical Parameters in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
TLDR
Low serum calcium and high phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) indicate that SLE & RA patients had sick bone and the serum ALP isoenzyme (bone) is a biochemical marker for the assessment of bone mineralization and monitoring the therapy with bisphosphonates which are bone strengthing agents.
Correlates of Biochemical Markers of Bone turnover among Post-Menopausal Women
TLDR
Examination of correlates of bone turnover markers in post-menopausal women in tertiary level of health care center of Nepal revealed that body mass index, inorganic phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase positively correlated with year since menopause while calcium and vitamin D were negatively correlated suggesting for a medical supervision of hormonal changes and periodic dosing of calcium and Vitamin D among post- menopausal women to reduce the problem of bone health.
Biomarkers of bone turnover after a short period of steroid therapy in elderly men.
TLDR
Evaluated the impact of a short period of steroid therapy on the serum concentrations of bone biomarkers in elderly men, finding no consistent findings concerning bone resorption in glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
Short-term effects of surgery in post-menopausal patients with primary hyperparathyroidism and normal bone turnover
TLDR
It is shown that bone formation and resorption markers are up-regulated also in PHPT patients with mild skeletal involvement; acute removal of parathyroid hormone excess differently affected the markers of bone turnover in terms of both entity and time-course.
Plasma alkaline phosphatase as a sensitive indicator of age and skeletal development in wild coscoroba swans
TLDR
Reports total-ALP levels of free-living coscoroba swans from the most important breeding and moulting population in Brazil conclude that measuring ALP facilitates the discrimination among different-aged individuals with similar plumage characteristics and body size.
The Rate of Bone Mineralization in Birds Is Directly Related to Alkaline Phosphatase Activity
TLDR
It is concluded that bone ALP activity in the blood plasma is a reliable biomarker for skeletal mineralization in birds, and enables detection of subtle developmental differences between chicks of similar structural size, potentially facilitating the prediction of offspring mid‐ and long‐term survival.
Development of a designated comparison method for alkaline phosphatase measurements and its application to evaluating routine methods
TLDR
The DCM was established based on a Thermo Indiko automatic biochemical analyzer and gave satisfying results, although the relative biases of some routine methods failed to meet the bias limit derived from biological variation.
Age-Related Changes in the Activity of Bone Alkaline Phosphatase and its Application as a Marker of Prefledging Maturity of Nestlings in Wild Passerines
TLDR
It is suggested that prefledging activity of bone ALP is a more reliable indicator of nestling maturity than traditionally used morphological measurements.

TLDR
It is concluded that this new IRMA for B-ALP is reliable, has a low cross-reactivity with the liver isoenzyme, and appears to be more sensitive than T-ALp for the clinical investigation of patients with osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases.
Comparison of total and bone-specific alkaline phosphatase in patients with nonskeletal disorder or metabolic bone diseases.
TLDR
Results indicate that, in the presence of liver disease, the specificity of AP measurements is improved by measuring BAP, and in most other clinical situations, serum TAP appears to provide sufficient clinical information.

In tumor patients, receiver-operating characteristic analysis revealed that bone ALP activity shows the same diagnostic efficacy as total ALP activity in the detection of bone metastases (as assessed by bone scintigraphy).

TLDR
Comparisons with the other measurements revealed that BAP correlated better with total AP than with BGP; the lowest correlation occurred between BGP and total AP (r = 0.51); in patients with liver disease, the BAP was indistinguishable from normal whereas the TAP was elevated.
Monoclonal antibody assay for measuring bone-specific alkaline phosphatase activity in serum.
TLDR
The assay detected increased BAP in sera from patients with osteoporosis, Paget disease, osteomalacia, or primary hyperparathyroidism.

TLDR
Taking electrophoresis as a basis for standardization, it was determined that the lectin precipitated approximately 90% of bone ALP, but < 5% of nonbone ALP, which derived serum/plasma upper reference limits for bone ALP activity in adults and children.

TLDR
The serum concentrations of 2 biochemical markers of bone formation, bone Gla-protein (BGP) and bone alkaline phosphatase (BAP), in 164 normal subjects and 164 patients with metabolic bone disorders gave concordant results, however, in patients with glucocorticoid excess.

It is suggested that BALP measurement with this immunoassay may be clinically useful, and more sensitive than total ALP, in the assessment of bone turnover during changes of the estrogen status as well as in monitoring the effects of treatments that modify the metabolic activity of the skeleton.
