Gloxinia (Sinningia speciosa Hierm) belongs to the family Gesneriaceae and is a commercially important ornamental plant. Gloxinia produces single or double flowers that are available in a variety of colors. This plant can be traditionally propagated by leaf, stem, rhizome, seed, and crown cuttings from a mature plant after blooming. The biological material was composed of five genotypes of Gloxinia (Sinningia speciosa): Kaiser Wilhelm; Kaiser Friedrich; Mont Blanc; Prince Albert; hybrid MA. The… Expand

Effect of media on hardening of in vitro multiplied plantlets of gloxinia and saintpaulia under low cost polytunnels
The studies were carried out in the year 2002 with an objective to standardize the hardening medium for gloxinia ( Sinningia speciosa ) and saintpaulia( Saintpaulia ionantha) . The experiment wasExpand
Two different pathways for the high-efficiency plant regeneration of gloxinia.
Gloxinia was efficiently plant-regenerated using its leaf, petiole and root segements as explants via two different organ biogenesis pathways and some mutants with the changed phyllotaxy was found after generations of subcuture. Expand
Improved shoot organogenesis of gloxinia ( Sinningia speciosa ) using silver nitrate and putrescine treatment
An improved method for shoot organogenesis and plant regeneration in 'Sinningia speciosa' was established and could be used as a possible micropropagation and plant transformation protocol. Expand
Ethylene Inhibitors Enhance Shoot Organogenesis of Gloxinia (Sinningia speciosa)
Shoot organogenesis and plant regeneration in Sinningia speciosa were improved using ethylene inhibitors significantly improved the regeneration frequency giving higher shoots per explant and longer shoot length. Expand
Adventitious shoot regeneration from Sinningia speciosa leaf discs in vitro and stability of ploidy level in subcultures
Recurrent regenerations were obtained from leaf explants or apical meristems excised from shoots of the previous subcultures, which had a high frequency of regeneration and also produced more shoots per explant. Expand
A new species of Sinningia (Gesneriaceae) from northeastern Brazil
A new species endemic to northeastern Brazil, inningia nordestina is distinguished from other members of the genus by its vestigial tubers, ascending pedicels with pendent flowers, small corollas, and deviating flowering period. Expand
