Recently, small-molecule agonists of adiponectin were identifi ed and shown in mice to improve a range of diseases associated with obesity (eg, type 2 diabetes and fatty liver), and to substantially reverse the shortened lifespan associated with obesity. It is hoped that drugs targeted at adiponectin pathways will eventually become available for the eff ective, comprehensive treatment of diseases associated with obesity.
