Several studies has recently enlightened therapeutic use of ass’ milk (AM) due to its special composition and nutritional properties, which are very close to human one. This feature makes ideal substitute of breast milk, whenever the mother cannot or will not breastfeed, or the child is intolerant to cow's milk (CM), providing the nutritional and health needs of the infant. The authors reviewed the literature about AM tolerance, safety and efficacy in the treatment of infants and children with…

Effects of thermal treatments on donkey milk nutritional characteristics.
TLDR
The possibility of using lyophilization in order to maintain the nutritional characteristics of donkey milk was demonstrated, and some promising patents on the effects of thermal treatments on donkey milk nutritional characteristics were presented.
Microbial Profile and Antimicrobial Effect of Donkey Milk against Staphylococcus aureus
TLDR
The DM is having higher tolerability, palatability, nutritional adequacy, low fat and casein and majority of its application is by considering it as a alternative to cow/mother milk for children affected with milk allergy.
New Insights into Chemical and Mineral Composition of Donkey Milk throughout Nine Months of Lactation
TLDR
The Ragusano breed showed a good aptitude for milk production and the composition of the milk confirmed its nutritional quality, and its potential production, gross, and mineral composition have been deeply investigated yet.
Comparison of the protein and fatty acid fraction of Balkan donkey and human milk
The aim of this study was to compare the protein and fatty acid fractions of Balkan donkey and human milk in the early lactation stage (40 and 90 day). This study revealed that donkey milk contains
ASPECTOS COMPOSICIONAIS E NUTRICIONAIS DO LEITE DE JUMENTA: UMA REVISÃO
TLDR
The rational creation of the species, focusing on production and consumption of milk, is a promising alternative to ruminant milk, making it one of the milk components with useful biological properties.
Distribution of selected trace elements in the major fractions of donkey milk.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentrations of Zn, Cu, Mn, Se, Mo, Co, Li, B, Ti, Cr, Rb, Sr, Cd, and Pb in donkey milk and their distribution in major milk fractions (i.e., fat, casein,
Equine Milk Production and Valorization of Marginal Areas—A Review
TLDR
Aiming to promote advances of knowledge on the dairy equine enterprise, aspects of management of the dairy horse and donkey are reviewed in the frame of marginal areas, with a special focus on dam and foal feeding, and welfare, besides milk quality.
Shelf life of donkey milk subjected to different treatment and storage conditions.
TLDR
The study shows that an HPP treatment of pasteurized milk after packing extends the shelflife of donkey milk and assures its microbial criteria up to 30d if properly stored at 4°C until opening; therefore, combined heat treatment and storage strategies are recommended to enhance the shelf life of donkey Milk.
Health evaluation of donkeys: parasite control methods and a model for challenge infections
TLDR
The objective of the present work was to review the existing literature about parasite infections of donkeys, including their clinical implications, and the drug efficacy test to help practitioners improve their health management programs.

Adequacy and tolerance to ass's milk in an Italian cohort of children with cow's milk allergy
TLDR
The data confirm the high rate of AM tolerability in children with moderate symptoms of CMPA and found that AM seems to have nutritional adequacy in subjects with a varied diet.

An evaluation for its allergenicity would bring the following: protein homology, most likely to cause cross reactions in already sensitised children, and an algorithm to evaluate the introduction of new proteins in human feeding.

TLDR
Ass milk is better tolerated and more effective than GM in reducing symptoms of AD in a single‐blind, controlled, randomized crossover, and may represent a better substitute of CM than the currently used GM.
Use of Ass' Milk in Multiple Food Allergy
TLDR
The follow-up of the patients showed that ass' milk was tolerated without any problems up to an age ranging from 15 to 20 months, when cow's milk was reintroduced in some patients.

TLDR
Data has been accumulating on the utility of diagnostic tools for mostly IgE-mediated milk allergy and allergenicity of milk from other mammalian species, although further studies are sought.
Major whey proteins in donkey’s milk: effect of season and lactation stage. Implications for potential dietary interventions in human diseases
TLDR
Molecular analysis of α-lactalbumin, β-LG, and lysozyme, the principal whey proteins in donkey’s milk, in relation to lactation stage and production season found that the protein content was higher than the total protein content during the first four lactation's months and decreased until the month 8.

TLDR
A detailed comparative analysis among the protein fractions of DM, CM and human milk is offered, following an extensive proteomic study of the casein and whey proteins of DM performed by narrow pH range 2-DE.
