This dissertation consists of three parts. The first part of the thesis is devoted to the study of gravity and higher spin gauge theories in 2+1 dimensions. The first part deals with cosmological solutions of spin-3 gravity and their thermodynamics, flat space limit of AdS$_3$ gravity and higher spins using Grassmann approach and chiral higher spin solutions with the most general AdS$_3$ boundary condition. The second part is devoted to the problem of Neumann boundary condition in Einstein's…

Thermodynamics of higher spin black holes in AdS3

A bstractWe discuss the thermodynamics of recently constructed three-dimensional higher spin black holes in SL(N,$ \mathbb{R} $) × SL(N,$ \mathbb{R} $) Chern-Simons theory with generalized

Anti-de Sitter space and holography

Recently, it has been proposed by Maldacena that large $N$ limits of certain conformal field theories in $d$ dimensions can be described in terms of supergravity (and string theory) on the product of

Spacetime geometry in higher spin gravity

Higher spin gravity is an interesting toy model of stringy geometry. Particularly intriguing is the presence of higher spin gauge transformations that redefine notions of invariance in gravity: the

Light-front higher-spin theories in flat space

We revisit the problem of interactions of higher-spin fields in flat space. We argue that all no-go theorems can be avoided by the light-cone approach, which results in more interaction vertices as

Holographic chiral induced W-gravities

A bstractWe study boundary conditions for 3-dimensional higher spin gravity that admit asymptotic symmetry algebras expected of 2-dimensional induced higher spin theories in the light-cone gauge. For

The covariant action of higher spin black holes in three dimensions

A bstractWe propose a set of boundary terms for higher spin theories in AdS3 that lead to a well-defined variational principle compatible with Dirichlet boundary conditions for the metric and higher

Chiral higher spin gravity

We construct a candidate for the most general chiral higher spin theory with AdS$_3$ boundary conditions. In the Chern-Simons language, on the left it has the Drinfeld-Sokolov reduced form, but on

The Large-N Limit of Superconformal Field Theories and Supergravity

We show that the large-N limits of certainconformal field theories in various dimensions includein their Hilbert space a sector describing supergravityon the product of anti-de Sitter spacetimes,

Higher spin black holes with soft hair

A bstractWe construct a new set of boundary conditions for higher spin gravity, inspired by a recent “soft Heisenberg hair”-proposal for General Relativity on three-dimensional Anti-de Sitter space.

On The Uniqueness of Minimal Coupling in Higher-Spin Gauge Theory

We address the uniqueness of the minimal couplings between higher-spin fields and gravity. These couplings are cubic vertices built from gauge non-invariant connections that induce non-abelian
