TLDR
It is suggested that the longitudinal pattern, with several anastomoses delay the feed progress in the aboral direction, allowing a larger digestive period and, consequently, better feed nutrients profit, by the feed material exposition to the intestinal mucous for larger period, besides contributing for the fecal mass preparation.
Functional morpho-histology of the alimentary canal of an Indian frewhwater major carp, Labeo rohita (Hamilton) during it's different life-history stages.
TLDR
The frequency, length, breadth and distribution of the mucous cells and taste buds are significantly different in marked contrast with those of the fry thus indicating that the fingerlings and adults depend primarily on their gustatory organs for feeding.
The Alimentary Canal and Digestion in Teleosts
TLDR
The chapter discusses three methods by which the digestion rate in fish is estimated––namely, by measuring the time interval between food intake and defecation, byasuring the stomach contents at various time intervals after feeding, and by using X-rays for observing the progress of digestion with time.
