Ascorbate and its free radical potentiates proliferation of HL-60 cells in serum-limiting media. Dehydroascorbate does not affect growth. This stimulation of growth is due to a general shortening of the cell cycle. The incubation of HL-60 cells with ascorbate free radical produces a significant change of the redox potential of cells. The presence of cells in culture media avoids the total oxidation of ascorbate, and also HL-60 cells induce the short-term stabilization of ascorbate. Ascorbate… CONTINUE READING
