Changes in ascorbate and glutathione contents and the activities and isoenzyme patterns of enzymes of the ascorbate-glutathione cycle were investigated in embryo axes and cotyledons of germinating lupine (Lupinus luteus L.) seeds. Ascorbate content was not significantly affected over the initial 12 h of imbibition in embryo axes, but afterwards increased, with the most rapid accumulation coinciding with radicle emergence.
