Arsenic trioxide (ATO) has been shown to induce differentiation and apoptosis in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) cells concomitant with down-regulation of the PML-RARalpha fusion protein, a product of the t(15:17) translocation characteristic of APL leukemic cells.
