Concentrations of the branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) valine, leucine, and isoleucine and the aromatic amino acids (AAAs) phenylalanine and tyrosine were measured in three areas of dissected brain tissue obtained at autopsy from nine cirrhotic patients who died in hepatic encephalopathy.
