Abstract A comprehensive study using sixteen different metal ions was conducted, in order to test the possibility of substituting one or more Cu 2+ ions in nanojars, [anion⊂{Cu(μ-OH)(μ-pz)} n ] 2− ( n  = 27–32; anion = CO 3 2− or SO 4 2− ), with Zn 2+ , Ni 2+ , Co 2+ , Fe 2+ , Fe 3+ , Mn 2+ , Cr 3+ , VO 2+ , Cd 2+ , Ag + , Pd 2+ , Ce 4+ , Sn 2+ , Pb 2+ , Pr 3+ or Nd 3+ .
