Twenty Gram-negative, rod-shaped, slightly curved, non-spore-forming bacteria that gave a negative result in Arcobacter species-specific PCR tests but that yielded an amplicon in an Arcobacter genus-specific PCR test were isolated from 13 unrelated broiler carcasses. Numerical analysis of the profiles obtained by SDS-PAGE of whole-cell proteins clustered all isolates in a single group distinct from the other Arcobacter species. DNA-DNA hybridization among four representative strains exhibited…

Arcobacter thereius sp. nov., isolated from pigs and ducks.
TLDR
During a Danish study on the prevalence of campylobacteria in pig abortions and food of animal origin, eight Gram-negative, slightly curved, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacteria were clustered by using amplified fragment length polymorphism analysis in a distinct phenon within the genus Arcobacter, showing that all isolates clustered in a single group distinct from other recognizedArcobacter species.
Arcobacter trophiarum sp. nov., isolated from fattening pigs.
In the course of a longitudinal study elucidating the dynamics of Arcobacter populations in pigs, 16 isolates of Gram-reaction-negative, rod-shaped, slightly curved, non-spore-forming bacteria were
Arcobacter vandammei sp. nov., isolated from the rectal mucus of a healthy pig.
TLDR
A phenotypic analysis further corroborated the conclusion that strain R-73987T represents a novel Arcobacter species, for which the nameArcobacter vandammei sp.
Arcobacter mytili sp. nov., an indoxyl acetate-hydrolysis-negative bacterium isolated from mussels.
TLDR
Genotypic and phenotypic characteristics indicated that the new isolates represent a novel species of the genus Arcobacter, for which the name Arcobacteria mytili sp.
Arcobacter lanthieri sp. nov., isolated from pig and dairy cattle manure.
TLDR
It is proposed that the isolates found to be oxidase, catalase and esterase positive and urease negative are classified as members of a novel species with the name Arcobacter lanthieri sp.
Isolation of various Arcobacter species from domestic geese (Anser anser).

TLDR
To the authors' knowledge this is the first time that arcobacters other than A. butzleri have been reported in poultry meat or any other food of animal origin, and their high prevalence in poultry products may be of significance to public health.
Assessment of the Genetic Diversity among Arcobacters Isolated from Poultry Products by Using Two PCR-Based Typing Methods
TLDR
Enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus PCR (ERIC-PCR) and randomly amplified polymorphic DNA PCR (RAPD- PCR) were optimized for characterization of Arcobacter butzleri, Arcobacteria cryaerophilus, and Arcob bacteria skirrowii, demonstrating that different outcomes can be obtained in epidemiological studies depending on the isolation procedure used and the number of isolates characterized.
Polyphasic taxonomic study of the emended genus Arcobacter with Arcobacter butzleri comb. nov. and Arcobacter skirrowii sp. nov., an aerotolerant bacterium isolated from veterinary specimens.
TLDR
A rapid screening of 77 aerotolerant Arcobacter strains revealed five major groups, which were identified by using DNA-DNA hybridization data as A. butzleri strains and strains belonging to one of the electrophoretic subgroups of A. cryaerophilus had similar fatty acid contents, and an analysis of fatty acid compositions allowed clear-cut differentiation of all of the other groups.
Detection of Arcobacter species in gastric samples from swine.
Campylobacter nitrofigilis sp. nov., a Nitrogen-Fixing Bacterium Associated with Roots of Spartina alterniflora Loisel
TLDR
These strains were found associated with roots of Spartina alterniflora Loisel and in root-associated sediments from salt marshes in Nova Scotia, Canada, and Georgia and are proposed to represent a new species, Campylobacter nitrofigilis.
Development of a new protocol for the isolation and quantification of Arcobacter species from poultry products.

Identification of Arcobacter isolates by PCR
TLDR
A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay was developed for the identification of the three species of Arcobacter which have been recovered from clinically ill or healthy humans and/or livestock, namelyArcobacter butzleri, Arcob bacteria skirrowii and Arcobacteria cryaerophilus.
Development of a multiplex PCR assay for the simultaneous detection and identification of Arcobacter butzleri, Arcobacter cryaerophilus and Arcobacter skirrowii.
TLDR
The assay was useful to identify cultures after in vitro cultivation and to detect and identify A. butlzeri and A. cryaerophilus from poultry samples present in 24-h old enrichment in Arcobacter broth with cefoperazone, amphotericin and teicoplanin (CAT)-supplement.
